Mars had liquid water at one point in time. How much remains to be determined. It may have been a lake, it may have been an ocean, or it may have been water percolating to the surface…

but the outcrops at Opportunity’s landing site in Meridini Planum did have a history of liquid water…

HOW EXCITING IS THAT? Not proof of life, but at least indication there was potential for life and that Mars was not always the barren desert it appears to be now.
