We know (although there are some who insist on denying it) that various animals use simple tools much like early human beings did.    It has now been documented that human beings are not the only critters to use advanced tools:

Pretty impressive stuff, and evidence that our gift of language isn’t so unique as people would have us believe.    We’ve already breached the language barrier with primates… next will be Dolphins.
